If you follow Scorpion's instructions you will get it out perfectly - the cable on the left side of the battery ( when seated on the bike facing forward- god knows why you might be facing backwards but some folks has tried it) is the ground cable - get that off first - then there is much less chance of creating a dead short with a loud pop and a shower of sparks.

Batteries are not to messed about with. Somewhere along the line I picked up that an average motorcycle battery contains about as much energy as a stick of dynamite. A dead short releases a terrific amount of energy in a very short period of time.
